Competitor Information

Cost for Professional Categories is $150 plus a service fee (minus the King of Texas & Texas Two Step).  

Cost for Professional Category “King of Texas” is $200.00 plus a service fee. 

Cost for Professional Category "Texas Two Step" Tag Team is $300 plus service fee.

This covers you plus your model. This cost covers you plus your model.

Cost for Student Categories is $100 plus a service fee.

This cost covers you plus your model.

Contestants may enter multiple categories.

Rules & Judging

Judging:

TX Barber Expo will use a 50pt Universal Judging System and Manifest backstage. Only the haircut,

Sanitation/Professionalism will be judged on stage.

Rules:

PLEASE NOTE: Competitors must be at least 18 years of age to enter. The competition fee includes a

one-day exhibit hall entry for the competitor and their model(s). (One model per battle).

Each competitor must have their own sanitized equipment:

Clippers

Trimmers

Razors

Brushes

TX Barber EXPO reserves the right to cancel or rescheduled the event.

Overall Competition Rules:

1. All contestants must bring a live model and barbering tools in order to participate in competition. The

competition fee includes a one-day exhibit hall entry for the competitor and model. Model numbers will

be given to all participating models once confirmed and check in at the registration area.

2. All models’ hair must be cut at competition. Competitor is not allowed to cut, trim, shape or preset

model’s hair before the competition begins. Semi-permanent color, permanent color, light color sprays

and chalks are NOT allowed unless otherwise noted. Barber must show a transformation of the model’s

hair. The judges will inspect model’s hair during pre-judging or during check-in. Violation of this rule will

result in the deduction of points and/or disqualification from competition.

3. All contestants must check in at the registration area at least one hour prior to the battle. If

contestant is late, they will forfeit their place in the competition and their paid entry fee or fees. Please

look for “Check In” when you arrive to the battle.

4. All contestants will have a specific time to complete their particular cut and style. Judging will be

conducted on a visual basis only. Judges will use a point system on a scale of one (lowest possible score)

to ten (highest possible score). If there is a tie in a category or prize placement, the judges will

determine the final winner.

*ALL PARTICIPANTS MUST BE AT THE VENUE BY 2PM.

Barber Battles

King of Texas

This is where we want to see your creativity, you are able to use color, color enhancements, designs, there are NO rules holding you back on using your imagination. Make sure your model dresses the part of the haircut.

Each competitor has 50 minutes to complete and will be judged and scored on the following:

• Degree of difficulty of work performed on stage (10pts)

• Outline/Edge-up (10pts)

• Precision of blend (5pts)

• Precision of letters and or design (5pts)

• Originality (10pts)

• Professionalism (Appearance of tools, sanitation, etc) (5pts)

• Total look of model when completed (5pts)

HIGHEST POSSIBLE TOTAL POINTS: (50pts)

Fade w/ Beard

Each competitor has 40 minutes to complete and will be judged and scored on the following:

• Difficulty of cut/Hair texture (10pts)
• Outline/Edge-up (10pts)
• Precision of blend (10pts)
• Precision of Facial Hair (10pts)
• Professionalism (Appearance of tools, sanitation, etc) (5pts)
• Total look of model when completed 5pts)

HIGHEST POSSIBLE TOTAL POINTS: (50pts)

Freestyle Design

Each competitor has 40 minutes to complete and will be judged and scored on the following:

• Degree of difficulty of work performed on stage (10pts)
• Outline/Edge-up (10pts)
• Precision of letters and or design (10pts)
• Originality (10pts)
• Professionalism (Appearance of tools, sanitation, etc) (5pts)
• Total look of model when completed (5pts)

HIGHEST POSSIBLE TOTAL POINTS: (50pts)

Fastest Fade

Each competitor has 12 minutes to complete and will be judged and scored on the following:

• Difficulty of cut/Hair texture (10pts)
• Outline/Edge-up (10pts)
• Precision of blend (10pts)
• Speed/Techniques (10pts)
• Professionalism (Appearance of tools, sanitation, etc) (5pts)
• Total look of model when completed (5pts)

HIGHEST POSSIBLE TOTAL POINTS: (50pts)

Traditional Haircut

Each competitor has 30 minutes to complete and will be judged and scored on the following:

• Difficulty of cut/Hair texture (10pts)
• Outline/Edge-up (10pts)
• Styling Techniques (10pts)
• Precision of Blend (10pts)
• Professionalism (Appearance of tools, sanitation, etc) (5pts)
• Total look of model when completed (5pts)

HIGHEST POSSIBLE TOTAL POINTS: (50pts)

Texas Two Step - Tag Team

The Tag Team has 50 minutes to complete and will be judged and scored on the following:

• Professionalism (Appearance of tools, sanitation, etc) (5pts)

Student Traditional Haircut

Each competitor has 35 minutes to complete and will be judged and scored on the following:

• Difficulty of cut/Hair texture (10pts)
• Outline/Edge-up (10pts)
• Styling Techniques (10pts)
• Precision of Blend (10pts)
• Professionalism (Appearance of tools, sanitation, etc) (5pts)
• Total look of model when completed (5pts)
